About the Artist

Siobhan Lo was born in 1973 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to a Chinese-Malaysian father and an Irish mother. In 1979, the family relocated to England, first to London, then to Bournemouth (a seaside-town on the South Coast.)

A passion for drawing, painting, and the other visual arts throughout childhood and adolescence led her to attend the Arts Institute at Bournemouth (then located at Shelley Manor, former home of Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife, Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein), where she earned a diploma in Fine Art.

To continue her education as an artist, she moved to London to study Graphic Design at the renowned Camberwell College of Art. It was there, in the early 1990s, Ms. Lo got caught up in the then just emerging digital revolution in media, combining art and technology, and using computers to create images that had never been possible before.

Missing the technical challenges of the sciences and excited by the advances in technology, she decided to enroll in a newly-introduced animation and computer science course at Bournemouth University. Here she gained both a BA (Hons) in Computer Animation and Visualization and a Masters degree in Visual Effects.

In 1997, Siobhan began a successful career as a digital VFX artist in the booming digital effects sector of the film industry, first working at Pinewood Studios, and subsequently in London's high-end visual effects houses “CFC” and “The Mill”.

Within a short period, she was offered and accepted a position as digital compositor at George Lucas’ groundbreaking visual effects house “Industrial Light and Magic” and moved to San Francisco.

For seven years, Ms. Lo contributed to the stunning visuals of major feature films directed by Stephen Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton, amongst many others.

Throughout this whole period she continued to work on developing her personal art in her spare time, and, In 2004, decided to limit her involvement in the film industry to occasional project-based work in order to focus on working full-time as a painter and artist.

Combining her training as a traditional artist with her expertise in digital image manipulation, Ms. Lo has developed an extensive body of work with a unique vision and style of painting that is influenced as much by her personal journey, cultural roots in Asia and Europe as her many years of working in American cinema.
